MISCELLANEOUS
WEEKEND DISCOUNTS
While you are here in the vicinity of the Nation's Capital anyway, you may want to consider sightseeing over the weekend preceding our Tour. There is an impressive variety of historic and contemporary attractions available including the Smithsonian Museums, the Government buildings and monuments, Mt. Vernon, and much more (visit our Museums and Historic Sites page). The airlines, hotel and motel chains, and auto rental agencies (including Avis) are offering enticing discounts, especially over the weekends.
LUGGAGE
For those of you who check out Tuesday morning, there is ample space for your luggage on the tour bus.
AIRPORT ACCESSIBILITY
Those of you who fly into the Washington DC / Northern Virginia area for the Ed Bearss Tour will find the Dulles International Airport most convenient, Reagan National is manageable, but BWI (Baltimore-Washington International) is too distant to be a practical choice.
ATTIRE
For the tour, we recommend casual clothes, sturdy walking shoes, a hat or cap with a brim, and sunglasses. Water, soft drinks, and munchies will be provided. Photography is encouraged. The same casual attire will be appropriate for the Monday evening dinner.
TAXI and CAR RENTAL
Unfortunately, public mass transit does not service Manassas. If you fly into either Dulles International or Reagan National Airports, your options are probably limited to renting an automobile or hiring a taxi.
Avis Auto Rental has offered us a group discount of $136.16 from Dulles or $139.12 from Reagan National which includes all fees and taxes for 49 hours (plus $18.67/hour or $18.14/hour for the 50th and 51st hours) with unlimited mileage for a mid-size sedan. Phone (800) 331-1600 and request the Avis discount for code number J990963. Other sizes of autos are also available at corresponding rates. Check for additional discounts that may be available when you reserve your car.
Taxi service between Dulles and Manassas typically costs about $75 for one or two passengers, and about $60 for service between Reagan National and Manassas.
