Spring Hikes, 2008

Friends of Manassas National Battlefield Park

You are invited to participate in Ranger/Volunteer guided hikes on the Manassas National Battlefield Park on each Saturday afternoon in April. Each hike will visit key interpretive sites of either the First or Second Battles of Manassas (Bull Run). Park passes are required for participants age 17 and older. Passes may be acquired at the Visitor Center on the day of the hike.

  • April 5th:
    Ranger Greg Wolf and Volunteer Larry Gordon will co-lead the First Manassas Battlefield Hike. Program will last 4 hours and walk 5.5 miles.
  • April 12th:
    Ranger Hank Elliott and Volunteer Larry Gordon will co-lead an extended Second Manassas Deep Cut tour, following in the footsteps of the final Union assault by the 5th Corps on Stonewall Jackson's defensive line. Program will last approximately 2.5 hours and walk 2 miles.
  • April 19th:
    Ranger Hank Elliott will lead an extended Matthew's Hill tour, focusing on the opening phase of the First Battle of Bull Run. Program will last approximately 2.5 hours and walk 2 miles.
  • April 26th:
    Ranger Briant Kincaid will lead a program focusing on the massive Confederate attack and stubborn Union defense of Chinn Ridge at the conclusion of Second Manassas. Program will last approximately 2.5 hours and walk 2 miles.
All programs assemble at the Henry Hill Visitor Center at 12:00 pm and will take place rain or shine. Groups on April 12, 19, and 26 will then caravan to respective starting positions.
