136 HISTORIC ACRES PRESERVED for POSTERITY

The Friends offer hearty congratulations to the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) and the Sudley Mountain / Stony Ridge Civic Assoc. We hope their innovative coalition provides a model for safeguarding other valuable historic properties. They have rendered a meritorious service for the Manassas Battlefield community and for our Nation by coordinating with the appropriate government agencies and raising the $622,000 necessary to purchase this hallowed ground.

Please view the attached map (courtesy of CWPT). You will see how, on Aug. 29, 1862, General Kearney's assault drove Jackson's left wing off of the unfinished railroad grade and across what is now known as Featherbed Lane onto the Davis Tract (in yellow). Kearney's attack was not supported, and Jackson was able to reinforce and restore his defensive position.

It will be necessary to raise funds to retire the debts incurred in acquiring the Davis Tract. The Friends will keep you posted on these efforts, and know you will respond generously in this worthy cause.
